The Private Internet Access Linksys E2500 TomatoUSB FlashRouter is one of our most popular dual band devices for users looking for an all-around router upgrade at an economical price.
Besides being ready for a PIA VPN setup right out of the box, the TomatoUSB E2500 offers N600 wireless speed capacity (300 2.4 GHz / 300 5 Ghz), utilizing 4 internal antennas. Combine that with the Tomato-added perk of being able to manually manage wireless transmission power, manage access restrictions, utilizing an always on protective firewall, and offering a bevy of graphing, logs, and monitoring features, and you've got yourself a major networking device!
Since DD-WRT firmware doesn’t play as nice with some of the newer Linksys models in our testing, the Linksys E2500 gets the upgrade to the increasingly popular Tomato firmware, fully tested by our networking experts, and in the process becomes our best mid-level Tomato router.
Recommended For: 2-4 users looking for basic web, email, and video streaming on 1-3 connected devices. Ideal for small-to-mid-sized homes and home offices.
Using Tomato can make your network infinitely more stable and easier to tweak. FlashRouters provides a complete out-of-the-box, plug-and-play, Tomato-upgraded router solution that includes all of the most popular Tomato features.

My cable company gave me an old ubee 2500 modem/router ... slow and error prone.
Of course, job 1) the benefits of router friendly to PIA VPN, job 2) speed increase would be cool.
Well done on both counts.
First, I had to set my Time Warner Ubee 2600 to bridge mode. BTW, that is http://192.168.0.1/ and "admin" "cableroot" username/password. I had to Google that for sometime. I forgot the menu breadcrumbs to set bridge mode, but you'll find them.
The written instructions (I did not provide flashrouter.com my PIA user data since that's just not how I do it) for setup worked flawlessly. Not once did I have to Google something to make it work.
After VPN was setup, a secondary benefit rolled in: faster connection! My hypothesis--the antiquated ubee modem CPU was off-loaded the need to do modem AND wireless, it only had to do modem work.
So, I am pleased. With my VPN provider "Private Internet Access" and with the flashrouter.com piece.
Having said all this.. this works for me, a single connection person. If you have heavier speed demands (like more users), flashrouter has better options for you (more $).
Congratulations! This is what router configuration should look like. My old Linksys WRT54g has served me well for many years but it was time to upgrade and add VPN. I am really impressed with Tomato firmware and the power of the E2500 router.
The Cisco Linksys E2500 Tomato is a wonderful router at a wonderful price. A Dual Band router flashed with amazing Tomato firmware with a warranty for less than $120- this is a dream come true. The support that came with the router was incredibly helpful as well. A great router.
Excellent service, quick delivery. Item as described.
Forget spending hours deciphering and testing the DD-WRT forums/website/Wiki for the correct hardware version and proper build only to discover that you've improperly flashed your device and bricked it.
FlashRouters offers what many router manufacturers won't: better firmware plus basic network and VPN service configuration assistance from responsive and highly trained USA tech support that will actually answer your questions.
