Shipping Routers to Countries with Import Restrictions

FlashRouters ships around the world. Currently, people in over 75 countries use a FlashRouter to connect to the Internet. However, many countries impose import restrictions or bans on electronic devices, like routers. As such, we cannot ship to these countries directly.

FlashRouters is committed to providing network protection for anyone with an Internet connection. For people who live in a country with shipping limitations, we have to options for you: look into a freight forwarding service or take advantage of our one-on-one FlashRouters Remote Support Plan.

Benefits of Using a FlashRouter

For those unfamiliar, a FlashRouter is a wireless router flashed with customized Open Source firmware. Upgrading to a FlashRouter provides added network stability, increased range, and enhanced security.

And unlike most default configuration routers, a FlashRouter can be configured with a Virtual Private Network (VPN). VPNs work by tunneling your data through a secure tunnel, preventing outside snoopers from spying on your activity. Meaning that with a VPN, you can keep you and your family’s data secure.

Recommend VPN service providers include:

- Customized ExpressVPN firmware
- 30-day money back guarantee
- 24/7 customer service

- 1,100+ VPN servers in 60+ countries
- Owns and operates their own servers
- 3 months free with subscription

- Strict no logging policy
- Military grade encryption
- Award winning customer service

While VPNs also work for individual devices, VPN subscriptions only extend to specific devices and have limited connections per account, usually far below the number of connected devices that the average person has. However, with a FlashRouter you can configure your router with a VPN and cover all your devices with a VPN.

If you are interested in purchasing a VPN-configured FlashRouter, but live in a country that has import restrictions, read on to learn how Freight Forwarding can help!

Using A Freight Forwarder

For shipping to a country with import restrictions, a freight forwarding service is a great option for bringing a router to your door. A freight forwarding service does not actually ship the package, but instead acts as an intermediary between the shipper and various transportation services. In other words, freight forwarders handle logistics for the shipping of goods between one international location to the other.

Managing these shipping logistics requires extensive knowledge of shipping routes, trade regulations, and customs. Keeping track of all of these would confuse most people or small businesses looking to send a package overseas.

Thankfully, freight forwarders make this seemingly improbable task probable.

The Freight Forwarding Process

The freight forwarding process begins when a package is sent to the freight forwarder’s warehouse. There, the package receives clearance to leave its country of origin and is unloaded, inspected, and validated against its booking documents. Afterward, authorities check the package’s customs paperwork. Finally, the package is transferred from the import warehouse to its destination.

During this process, a host of documents must be filled out. These documents include the commercial invoice, Bill of Lading contract, certificate of origin, inspection certificate, export license, export packing list, and the shippers export declaration document. The documents always follow the product and are checked at each point in the shipping process.

Freight forwarders manage both sides of the shipping process. They plan the route, fill out the paperwork, and deal with customs. And, because they are able to legally bring in goods into territories with import restrictions, there are no legal implications.

Shipping to Countries With Import Restrictions

Countries with restrictions on importing routers include Israel, Cuba, Iraq, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Lebanon, Malaysia, Yemen, Russia, India, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and countries in Africa with the exception of South Africa, Morocco, and Egypt.

All of these countries have specific reasons for not allowing packages from the United States. Let’s go down the list for some of our most asked about restricted shipping countries and see why.

Shipping a VPN Router to Israel

Israeli law has very strict import policies regarding the import of telecommunications devices, which includes wireless routers. The purpose of this law is to protect local industry. While Israel and the United States do have fairly robust economic relations, sectors like agriculture and technology include significant import barriers.

Israeli customs checks all packages upon entrance and customs agents have final jurisdiction over what enters into the country. Using a freight forwarder to ship a FlashRouter to Israel solves this problem. Here is a list of shipping agents to choose from in Israel.

Open Source Routers in Cuba

In 1962, the United States government imposed a strict embargo against Cuba. Since then, aspects of the embargo have softened. However, telecommunications devices (including routers) have harsh restrictions.

Despite the change in policy, the existing legislation banning investment mentioned above is still in place. Meaning, exporters to Cuba could potentially face legal challenges. And, goods can still be seized by Cuban customs, so shipping directly to Cuba is very difficult. As such, shipping a router to Cuba would require a freight forwarding service. Crowley is one such service customers can use.

Using a VPN Router for Russia

The Russian Government places extreme restrictions on the import of technological goods from the US, including routers.

Following Russia’s involvement in Ukraine, including its role in shooting down a Malaysian air jet, the US and the EU imposed sanctions on Russia. In turn, the Russian government imposed several rounds of bans on many products from the US, most recently in mid-2018.

These restrictions make it nearly impossible to transport technology into the country. However, parcel services like MyUs are a potential way to ship to Russia. Services like MyUs will handle paperwork and customs.

To avoid dealing with the hassle of understanding import restrictions customers can also purchase a FlashRouters Remote Support Plan.

The TP Link Archer C9 1900 DD-WRT FlashRouter

So you may be wondering why you should give any more attention to the TP-Link Archer C9 AC1900 DD-WRT FlashRouter when we’ve just admitted to adding a number of excellent routers to our line?

Well, we’re glad you asked.

Let’s start with the processor upgrade: Your VPN’s performance and streaming media experiences will be flawless thanks to the DD-WRT best-in-class Dual Core 1 GHz (1000 MHz) Broadcom CPU that the Archer C9 offers.

There are also two USB ports (1 USB 3.0 and 1 USB 2.0), making sharing and transferring files between devices quick and easy. Then there’s the three adjustable and supremely powerful external antennae to ensure the maximum reach for your wireless network.

The latest FlashRouter - The TP-Link Archer C9 AC1900 DD-WRT

TP-Link Archer C9 AC1900 (Back)

For those looking for the light colored high-end DD-WRT router, the TP-Link Archer C9 DD-WRT is the only device that is not black. That does matter to a few of you out there we know. And we haven’t even started talking about the Wireless-AC…

The Advantages of Wireless-AC

Put simply, there’s Wireless-G, Wireless-N, and Wireless-AC. Of those, Wireless-AC is the one you want, as this primer helps explain in further detail.

The primary appeal is Wireless-AC is networking speed. This networking draft leaves its competitors in the dust, beating Wireless-G (up to 54 Mbps) and Wireless-N (450-900 Mbps) handily. This particular dual-band device tops out at 1900 Mbps (450Mbps Wireless-N + 1450 Mbps Wireless-AC). So the max transmission speed is minimally 2x the highest end Wireless-N device and about 20x older Wireless-G routers you might still be struggling with.

As we’ve demonstrated, the TP-Link Archer C9 is a remarkable device, no matter what you do to it. Yet the router does not reach its full potential until it’s flashed with DD-WRT, a replacement firmware that immeasurably improves upon the stock firmware of every router it graces.

If you’ve suffered through skips, stalls, freezes, and all manner of annoying interruptions while streaming videos on YouTube, movies on Netflix Instant, TV shows on Amazon Instant etc. then you need a router flashed with DD-WRT firmware. Watch as these persistent issues become a thing of the past now that you’ve got a DD-WRT FlashRouter.

But that’s just the beginning of DD-WRT’s virtues…

As you can see, a DD-WRT upgrade is an absolute must if you want a wireless network that is strong, fast, and versatile. Anything less is a compromise.

The benefits of owning the TP-Link Archer C9 AC1900 DD-WRT extend beyond the realm of FlashRouters. We’re affiliated with a great deal of top-notch VPNs that make your online security and freedom their top priority, and you can ensure the strength of your network with a VPN-capable FlashRouter.

If you’re subscribed to any VPN on our official supported provider list, we’ll send your TP-Link Archer C9 AC1900 ready to work with your VPN right out of the box. Don’t bother with tricky VPN-installation processes. Let our experts handle it.

Better yet, if you hold onto your old router, you can take advantage of our popular dual router set-up (illustrated below):

Setup VPN Service with Any Device

Dual Router VPN Setup – FlashRouters

This allows you to have one dedicated VPN router and one local router for day-to-day usage, making the process of switching between the two as simple as can be.

Using a VPN Archer C9 with DD-WRT installed allows for integration of an Internet Kill Switch or an auto-block on disconnect., preventing any worries about locational or security leaking within your network since it would be set at the router level.

In the market for a good VPN, checking our supported provider list is the best way to go. But, in the meantime, we can offer up a few tried and true favorites to start your browsing:

  • HideMyAss – Top number of servers and IP addresses in US & UK server choices.

The TP-Link WDR3600 DD-WRT FlashRouter

Recently, we’ve been devoting a lot of time to discussion of our Tomato routers (like the Linksys E3200 Router & Dark Knight Asus RT-N66U) . But that excitement may have led us to give short shrift to our wonderful line of DD-WRT routers.

No longer. It’s time we get back into celebrating our DD-WRT line, and what better place to start than with the powerful, robust, and thrifty TP-Link WDR3600 DD-WRT FlashRouter? This dual-band beauty is guaranteed to make your network run like you’ve never dreamed. Let’s get into it…

The Benefits of DD-WRT Firmware

The Benefits of DD-WRT Firmware

So we think we’ve made a pretty convincing case for the TP-Link WDR3600 router as a worthwhile addition to your home network even before considering what upgrading its firmware accomplishes. But in the interest of further hammering the point home, let’s talk about what happens to the WDR3600 once we at FlashRouters get our hands on it.

Flashing a WDR3600 router with DD-WRT firmware – a firmware enhancement designed to boost the power and security of a router – opens up a whole world of possibilities in your network. Your network’s security is improved immeasurably thanks to increased VPN capabilities (more on that later), and you’re able to control your bandwidth with ease, allowing you to prioritize which elements of your online activity require the most attention.

And that’s just the beginning:

  • Ample Network Restriction & Management Tools: Quality of Service for prioritizing your preferred applications, Time-Based Access Restrictions, Website Blocking.
  • VPN Server Creation For Remote Access: OpenVPN or PPTP.
  • Processor & Wireless Transmission Overclocking. (Note: This can lower the lifespan of your device if performed incorrectly)
  • Wake-on-LAN.
  • VOIP & SIP integration.

These benefits, and many others, add up to a FlashRouter worthy of the status of network centerpiece. You won’t believe the ways in which your wireless experience will change for the better!

As we mentioned above, the TP-Link WDR3600 DD-WRT FlashRouter allows you to have a simpler experience with your VPN in a multitude of ways. Furthermore, our routers allow you to hook up your new router with your old one to utilize the popular dual router setup. This allows you to have one router for local business and one as a dedicated VPN router. You can toggle between the two as you please, making the business of increasing your online security and accessing regionally restricted material as simple as flicking a switch.
