IIn the past, FlashRouters has highlighted some of the best free movies streaming on YouTube, but the list grew outdated pretty fast. Film companies and their lawyers are notorious for acting with lightning quickness when one of their films is being streamed for free without their permission.
In that spirit, here is a new list – one which will be updated regularly – to keep our readers aware of the great full, free movies streaming on YouTube. If by the time you read the post the link for the movie is rendered invalid, we apologize, but as we said, these things pop up and disappear with stunning speed.
Anyway, we hope you get some enjoyment out of our favorite free movies streaming on YouTube. This is a varied list, from classic westerns to anime to documentaries and beyond. But first…

Best Full Free Movies Streaming on YouTube in August 2015
In Bruges – Let’s start with a FlashRouters favorite: if you were to judge it by its trailer, you’d be forgiven for thinking that In Bruges was another Tarantino rip-off full of casual violence and wise-cracking hit-men. What the trailer failed to show was the depth, melancholy, and wicked sense of humor this brilliant movie possesses in spades. Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes are predictably terrific, but it’s Colin Farrell who digs deep and delivers his most poignant and hilarious performance to date and since.
Take Shelter – One of 2011’s best movies and possibly the best showcase for Michael Shannon’s full range of acting talent, Take Shelter tells the story of Curtis LaForche (Shannon) who starts having apocalyptic dreams that may be portentous of actual impending doom or just be the result of his family’s history of mental illness. LaForche’s must decide whether or not to receive medical treatment or spend money he doesn’t really have to protect his family with a storm shelter.
Coffee and Cigarettes – If you didn’t think Jim Jarmusch was cool before he gathered, like, all the cool people in the world (Tom Waits, Iggy Pop, Jack White, Meg White, the RZA, the GZA, Bill Murray, etc.) to be in this dryly amusing series of vignettes based around the title nouns and conversation, then get ready to reappraise the writer/director.
Capturing the Friedmans – If HBO’s The Jinx piqued your interest in documentarian Andrew Jarecki, we hesitantly recommend checking out his breakout movie, Capturing the Friedmans. Our hesitation stems from the subject matter of the movie, about a father and son who were convicted of child sexual abuse in the ’80s. Grim, hugely upsetting, but absolutely riveting.
Harlan County, U.S.A. – If you’re on a particular documentary kick after Capturing the Friedmans, maybe check out this landmark example of the form. Harlan County, U.S.A. covers an infamous labor dispute and subsequent strike that took place in the title county in the late 1970s, and the often violent repercussions that ensued.
Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb – The preeminent Cold War satire, Stanley Kubrick’s Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying anf Love the Bomb is legendary for its laceratingly witty, scatological, and daringly morbid sense of humor. This rightly beloved movie tells the story of one crazy general and how his delusional notions set off a series of globally catastrophic events.
The Wrong Guy – Here’s a cult comedy that too few have seen and should have made a star of Dave Foley. A hilarious riff on Hitchcock-style, on-the-lam movies, The Wrong Guy follows Foley’s Nelson Hibbert as he hides from the police (who aren’t chasing him) following the murder of his boss (who he didn’t kill, as the police know). It’s the perfect example of the balance of absurdity and wit for which Foley is well-known.
Closer – One of the late, great Mike Nichols last movies, Closer examines the potential minefield of intimate relationships through the eyes (and incredibly verbose words) of a writer (Jude Law), a photographer (Julia Roberts), a doctor (Clive Owen), and an exotic dancer (Natalie Portman), all of whom cross paths in London.
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari – If you’re in the mood to travel back to the early days of cinema, why not check out this silent classic? The story is about a hypnotist who uses a sleepwalker to commit murders on his behalf, but the real star of this movie is eerie, distinctive, surreal visual style. Don’t miss it.
Miami Connection – Lastly, now that we’ve offered a range of free streaming experiences, the best thing we can offer in summation is a movie about rock ‘n roll ninjas who take on a collection of drug dealers. The description is funny enough, but there’s plenty of humor to be found in the viewing experience. Trust us.
