In the past, FlashRouters has highlighted some of the best free movies streaming on YouTube, but the list grew outdated pretty fast. Film companies and their lawyers are notorious for acting with lightning quickness when one of their films is being streamed for free without their permission.
In that spirit, here is a new list – one which will be updated regularly – to keep our readers aware of the great full, free movies streaming on YouTube. If by the time you read the post the link for the movie is rendered invalid, we apologize, but as we said, these things pop up and disappear with stunning speed.
Anyway, we hope you get some enjoyment out of our favorite free movies streaming on YouTube. This is a varied list, from classic westerns to anime to documentaries and beyond. But first…

Best Full Free Movies Streaming on YouTube in July 2015
Primer – Before Shane Carruth made Upstream Color (currently streaming on Netflix Instant), he was tangling neurons with Primer, a movie about time travel that will scramble your puny brains (ours too, before you think we’re being insulting). If you’re willing to sift through incomprehensible dialogue (at least to those of us who aren’t theoretical physicists) and a plot that spins gleefully out of control, you’ll find a lot to love in Primer.
Soaked in Bleach – For those of you who watched Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck and have the sudden urge to watch as many recent documentaries about Kurt Cobain as possible, give Soaked in Bleach a shot. Compared to Montage of Heck though, Soaked in Bleach has a decidedly less charitable view of Cobain spouse Courtney Love, as the latter film details private investigator Tom Grant’s examination of Cobain’s death as well as his conviction that Love was somehow involved.
The Prestige – Back in 2006 when Christopher Nolan could release a movie without months of advance speculation, he made The Prestige, a fascinating thriller about a game of oneupmanship between two 19th century magicians (Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale) that drives both of them to remarkable extremes and draws in characters as interesting as Nikola Tesla (as played by David Bowie). It’s also one of Nolan’s best.
Unbreakable – We’re not here to defend anything M. Night Shyamalan after 75% of the way through Signs, but Unbreakable – made between his breakthrough, The Sixth Sense, and Signs – is both a sad, muted character study and a totally bonkers comic book thriller. Despite these seemingly contradictory tones, Shyamalan weaves them together beautifully. Time will tell if he ever gets his mojo back, but it’s worth noting that he really had something special once upon a time.
The Town – Ben Affleck has proven to be an impressive, if imperfect, director; He tends to start his films with daring grit only to lose his will and go for the hollywood ending. In this respect, The Town is no different, but it does feature ace performances from Jeremy Renner and Jon Hamm, as well as some masterfully staged armed robberies.
The Place Beyond the Pines – Blue Valentine director Derek Cianfrance chose to follow up the modest, human-sized story of his breakout movie with a multi-part American epic starring Ryan Gosling, Eva Mendes, Bradley Cooper, Dane DeHaan, and Ben Mendelsohn. The film divides neatly into three parts, all the better to differentiate between its riveting first third, quite good second third, and middling final third. But even when it’s not firing on all cylinders, The Place Beyond the Pines is admirably ambitious.
Double Indemnity – If you’ve got any love for film noir, you owe it to yourself to see Billy Wilder’s Double Indemnity. It has all of the elements: an insurance scheme centered around a murder, and a femme fatale (Barbara Stanwyck) pulling all of the strings, manipulating a poor schlub (Fred MacMurray) into doing things he’d otherwise never dream of. It’s the basis for all of the film noir that followed. Not to be missed.
Nightcrawler – For those of you without Netflix Instant (where Nightcrawler is streaming as of last month), here’s an opportunity to catch up on one of the creepiest movies and performances of 2014. Jake Gyllenhaal’s Louis Bloom, an aspiring videographer with seemingly no conscience, is the American success story that nightmares are made of.
The Drop – If the recent, hugely triumphant Mad Max movie has got you on a Tom Hardy high, then check out The Drop, wherein Hardy plays a sweet-natured bartender who lets mobsters use his bar to make deals. Suffice to say, complications ensue. The Drop is also notable for featuring the final screen performance of the great James Gandolfini, and if you can see him work one more time, isn’t that reason enough to watch the movie?
Brokeback Mountain – In light of the Supreme Court’s recent momentous decision regarding gay marriage, it seems like the perfect time to watch (or re-watch) Brokeback Mountain. Ang Lee’s tender, sad exploration of the relationship between two closeted gay cowboys seems only more poignant as the years go on, especially in light of the progress society has made on the issue as well as the death of star Heath Ledger.
