Good news for fans of Rizzoli and Isles and Sullivan and Son (from the shows Rizzoli & Isles and Sullivan & Son, respectively): TBS and TNT are getting into the business of cross-platform, 24-hour live streaming.
TV by the Numbers is reporting that the cable networks plan to offer a Watch TBS and Watch TNT app that will live-stream on-air content all day, every day, starting this summer. “Tablets and smartphones become television sets, bringing new opportunities for us and for advertisers,” said Steve Koonin, president of Turner Entertainment Networks.
This is exciting news for fans of the original programming offered by TBS and TNT, as well as sports fans: TNT’s NBA basketball coverage and TBS’s Major League Baseball coverage will be included on the apps. And the best part? Both of the apps are free provided you have a cable-subscription.
Live streaming will be available through www.tntdrama.com and www.tbs.com, as well as through tablets and smartphones. There will be more platforms with which to enjoy Watch TNT and Watch TBS by year’s end.
TV by the Numbers describes this roll-out as part of a TV-industry-wide initiative called TV Everywhere, which is designed to bring television channels to multiple platforms for subscribers to cable, satellite, and telco video services.
