Well, cord-cutters, your list of choices just got a little more cramped.
On May 21st, Microsoft announced the impending release of the Xbox One, their next-gen gaming console that the company purports to be an “all-in-one entertainment system.” Aside from everything that you’d usually expect from an Xbox, this new system is intended to revolutionize the way people consume all types of entertainment. A new Kinect camera and sensor will be included with every console, one that is so remarkably attuned to its user that it can even read your heartbeat.
What’s more, the Xbox One will include a microphone designed to respond to voice commands. And if being able to control this system with your voice and/or hand movements is insufficient to you, you can always use your tablet or phone. There will also be Skype integration that will allow for a range of social media interactivity in gaming as well as television viewing.
For those who have no intention of cutting the cord on their cable, there are plenty of good reasons to check out the Xbox One. This new system is designed to be integrated with your television in some intriguing ways. The Xbox One will hook into your cable, learn your viewing habits, and make suggestions for you. They’re even planning on including a social media aspect.
In fact, there may even be some content made strictly for Xbox One. Steven Spielberg has announced plans to bring a live-action version of Halo available only to users of the Xbox.
Of course, there have been no announcements regarding price, so we’ll be left to speculate about that until the holiday season.
