Featured Router of The Day: Cisco-Linksys E2000 FlashRouter with DD-WRT & VPN-Client

The Cisco-Linksys E2000 is the advanced version of the previously featured Cisco-Linksys E1000.

This model is discontinued. For other Linksys models, check out our Linksys Routers page

Here is a quick breakdown of some of the upgraded differences.

  • Four Fast Gigabit (10/100/1000Mbps) ports for wired devices

For those utilizing a wired connection, the E2000 has super-fast Gigabit Ethernet ports, which can get speeds 10 times as fast as the standard 10/100 Mbps Ethernet in less powerful router models.

  • Selectable Dual Band Wireless Signal 2.4GHz or 5GHz bands

The Linksys E1000 can only transmit on the 2.4 GHz signal. The E2000 can transmit on either the 2.4 GHz band or the 5 GHz band.

The 2.4 GHz band will often have a lot of interference. Many wireless car and helicopter remote controls, cordless home phones, wireless headphones, and other products fill the waves of this band, which can greatly reduce wireless streaming capability, especially for HD video.

If you would like to transmit HD video to an XBox360, PS3, Roku, AppleTV, or Wii, then transmitting on the 5 Ghz band will be quite useful. The 5GHz band will also help if you are having problems connecting in a congested area of wireless signals, such as an apartment building or a city. With DD-WRT on your E2000, you can also adjust your antenna transmission rate which is another possible solution for poor connection problems.

  • 32 MB RAM/ 8 MB Flash

The E1000 has only 4 MB of flash memory, limiting the space and capabilities of the firmware you can fit on it.

  • 3 Internal Antennae

The E1000 has 2 antennas so you should receive a boost in signal strength over the standard single antenna setup.
